The Phil Spector Trial: We Watch Court TV So You Don’t Have To (06/15)
WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY: Drama! A while ago, the prosecution alleged that Dr. Henry Lee stole a valuable piece of evidence. Now, it turns out Spector’s former defense lawyer, Sara Caplan, is suffering as a result. According to grand jury testimony, Caplan said she saw Lee remove a gunpowder-stained sliver of Lana Clarkson‘s fingernail from the crime scene. Lee denies the claim. Caplan now refuses to discuss Lee’s actions under oath, citing an ethical conflict. Judge Fidler says Caplan must testify or head to jail for contempt of court. A hysterical Caplan opted for contempt, and starting June 27th, Caplan will stay in jail until she takes the stand. The June 27th date was mandated so that Caplan has time to find a babysitter for her child.
IS THIS GOOD OR BAD FOR SPECTOR: You could tell by the way Spector stared furiously at the judge that this was not only bad; it was potentially fatal. The prosecution continues to relentlessly damage the credibility of one of the defense’s key witness, even if that means sending a mother to prison.
HAIR & WARDROBE UPDATE Spector was fashionably fuming in a black pinstripe jacket with a lavender shirt and peach tie.
