Richie Sambora: ‘I Don’t Recall’ Playing With Green Day
Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong recently made headlines when he called Bon Jovi the worst band he’s played with. Despite the obvious impression it made on Armstrong, Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora doesn’t recall the show at all.
“I have no idea what happened with that, I actually don’t recall them opening for us,” a laughing Sambora told Rolling Stone before Bon Jovi’s set at the iHeartRadio Music Festival. “Either I was incapacitated at that point or I just don’t remember it. I’m sorry he had such a bad time.”
Clearly Green Day and Bon Jovi won’t be hitting the road together again anytime soon, if ever. But Sambora does hope to continue to take out younger bands when Bon Jovi returns to the road. “Promoting new music is something that I like to do,” he said. “Silversun Pickups, My Morning Jacket is a great band. I listen to a lot of bands that are more indie these days and really digging it.”
The Bon Jovi dates aren’t that far off, as Sambora told Rolling Stone that the group’s new album is finished. “Somewhere around March or that vicinity, the new Bon Jovi record will come out and then we’ll be on the road with that,” he said.
Before that, he’ll be touring for his new solo album, starting on October 9th in Amsterdam and coming to the States before Christmas. “I haven’t toured myself in like twelve years so I’m really looking forward to that,” he said.
