Love Arraignment Postponed
Courtney Love’s October 10th arraignment on a misdemeanor charge of being under the influence of a controlled substance has been pushed back to October 31st. Love’s attorney requested the delay in order to review the charge against the singer.
The charge, filed against the singer last week, stems from an incident two weeks ago outside the Los Angeles home of her ex-boyfriend, producer and manager Jim Barber. Police arrested Love after responding to a burglary call around 2 a.m.; Love had broken windows of the house and was standing in the middle of the street when officers arrived.
“Her behavior was consistent with being under the influence,” a L.A.P.D. spokeswoman told Rolling Stone.
After Love had posted bail, police and EMS responded to “medical emergency” at her home, and she was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for an apparent drug overdose.
Though a spokesperson for Love told the press last week that the incident had been “blown of proportion,” the charge still carries possible jail terms ranging from ninety days to one year.
Last week, Love wrote on her Web site: “That controlled substance, one fucking word: Xanax.” The police administered a drug test, the results of which are forthcoming.
