Since Kanye West joined Twitter last week, one savvy blogger has turned the rapper’s tweets into drawings based on the New Yorker‘s famous style of cartoons. One of those cartoons refers to West’s tweet about his visit to Rolling Stone last week. West is pleased with the send-up: “They put my tweets with New Yorker cartoons hilarious!!,” he Tweeted. A new website loosely affiliated with Britney Spears has launched, which only features a countdown clock. A statement on the bottom of Gimmie Britney’s homepage reads, ‘gimmeBritney has close communication ties with Sony Music Australia. However, officially announced news and information on Britney Spears can be found on her official websites.” A U.S. rep for Spears did not immediately return calls for comment. [Gimme Britney]
Dr. Dre has opened up about Detox‘s numerous delays and his frustrations with leaks of tracks like “Under Pressure.” “It was frustrating because at least ‘Crack a Bottle’ had a hook on it,” he told Vibe. “I wouldn’t be as mad at a leak if the song was done.” Dre also discussed his plans post-Detox, which could include an instrumental hip-hop album titled The Planets. “An instrumental album is something I’ve been wanted to do for a long time,” he said. “I wanna do it in surround sound. It’ll have to be in surround sound for Saturn to work.” [Vibe]
San Francisco festival Outside Lands has announced its full schedule. Kings of Leon, Furthur featuring Phil Lesh and Bob Weir, the Strokes, My Morning Jacket and more are headlining the fest, which takes place in Golden Gate Park from August 14-15th. [Outside Lands]
Jerry Garcia‘s estate issued a statement about the film Dark Star today that reads, “We want to make clear that neither Grateful Dead Productions nor the Jerry Garcia Family LLC are in any way working with — or are in any other way affiliated with — the supposed upcoming Amir Bar-Lev-directed biopic about Jerry Garcia. Furthermore, we will not be licensing any recordings from Grateful Dead or Jerry Garcia’s music library for this production nor will we provide the producer/director with access to any Garcia family members.”
My Bloody Valentine’s long-in-the-works reissues of both Isn’t Anything and the masterpiece Loveless have been pushed back for the fourth time, with January 2011 the new target release date. The reissues were originally scheduled for release in January 2010. [Slicing Up Eyeballs]
John Legend and Swizz Beatz are offering an intimate studio recording session in an auction to help raise funds for RUSH Philanthropic, which provides disadvantaged urban youth with significant exposure and access to the arts. The session, worth an estimated $50,000, is up for auction through August 18th at Charitybuzz.
