Billie Joe Armstrong Seeking Substance Abuse Treatment After Vegas Meltdown
Green Day‘s Billie Joe Armstrong is seeking treatment for substance abuse, two days after the frontman made waves with a profanity-riddled tantrum onstage at the iHeartRadio music festival in Las Vegas. The band announced the news on its Facebook page Sunday, stating, “We regretfully must postpone some of our upcoming promotional appearances.”
Armstrong ended Green Day’s iHeartRadio set on Friday by smashing his guitar and cursing out festival organizers from the stage; according to Billboard, the meltdown was triggered by a sign indicating that the band had one minute left to finish their set. “You’re kidding me. I’m not fucking Justin Bieber, you motherfuckers,” Armstrong shouted. “Let me show you what one minute fucking means.”
“We would like everyone to know that our set was not cut short by Clear Channel and to apologize to those we offended at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas,” the band added in its statement.
The first installment of Green Day’s new album trilogy, Uno!, Dos! and Tré! comes out on Tuesday. Promotion for the new album hit another snag earlier this month, when Green Day were forced to cancel a concert in Italy, after Armstrong was hospitalized with what the band said was severe dehydration.
