Eminem Returns To High School in MTV Movie Awards Short Film
Ever wonder what Strangers With Candy would have been like if it starred Eminem instead of Amy Sedaris? Now, thanks to the MTV Movie Awards, we know: In Eminem, Where Have You Been? the MC twists the history books by showing how he went back to graduate from high school during his hip-hop hiatus instead of a struggling with the drug addiction well-documented on his newest album Relapse.
After showcasing his drama skills in 8 Mile, Eminem tries to show he has comedic chops in the short film, which will reportedly air during the MTV Movie Awards; Eminem will perform at the May 31st ceremony in Los Angeles. So how does he do? Some scenes, like when his GPS Anklet goes off in class and when he’s giving an oral report on “oral,” hit the mark. Others, like the painful-to-watch comic book shop scene that gave Em an excuse to break out his old Superman costume, are like bad carbon copies of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Still, after a rough stretch it’s good to see that Eminem still has his sense of humor intact, a point that will be reiterated when Em cameos in the upcoming Judd Apatow film Funny People, starring Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen.
While the video is somewhat amusing, we wish Slim Shady had instead starred in one of those “SNL Digital Shorts” with the MTV Movie Awards host, Andy Samberg, who recently made the pages of Rock Daily for his hilarious “Motherlover” video with Justin Timberlake.
