Ex-Cop Charged With Urinating On Metallica Fan At Boston Concert
Some things have changed since Rock Daily’s story “Massachusetts Cop Reportedly Urinates On Metallica Fan At Concert.” For starters, the cop in question, a Brewster Police officer named Joseph Houston, is now an ex-cop, having been “discharged for cause from the department.” And according to Boston.com, that ex-cop has now been charged with two counts of assault and battery and one count of open and gross lewdness stemming from the incident, which took place during a Metallica gig at Boston’s TD Banknorth Garden on January 18th. The district attorney said Houston would be arraigned April 8th.
As Rock Daily reported in January, before any illegal urination had happened that evening, Houston was escorted out of the arena for being overly drunk. He flashed his badge in an effort to get back into the venue, and at some point maybe called a black Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority officer “Obama.” It would’ve been just your routine night in the drunk tank for Houston if not for what happened next: During Metallica’s performance, Houston “allegedly exposed himself and urinated on a young couple from Connecticut.” As Rock Daily hypothesized back in January, “An obviously drunk Houston really had to go to the bathroom, but rather than miss even one note of ‘All Nightmare Long,’ he reasoned that the appropriate thing to do was to use the poor guy standing in front of him as his own private urinal.”
Truth be told, Rock Daily felt guilty after writing the initial story — this is some life-ruining stuff for Houston and at the time it was all “alleged.” Then multiple comments from “witnesses” were posted on the original story saying the supposed urine was just spilled beer. “He spilled his beer on the dude in front of him and got punched out for it! It was not piss! The press loves to spin a story and the public always buys the lie,” said one “witness,” who is probably a Houston friend or family member, considering that the district attorney has enough evidence — probably the piss-soaked clothing of a young Connecticut couple — to file the charges against Houston.
