Jeff Buckley’s Body Found In Memphis
The body of missing singer Jeff Buckley washed up on shore Wednesday in Memphis. Passengers on the American Queen riverboat said they saw a body
floating in the Mississippi River at the foot of Memphis’ famous
music row, Beale Street, around 4:30 p.m., Memphis
police said. After passengers notified the crew, first mate
Dave Williamson retrieved the body from the river.
Buckley’s road manager, Gene Bowen identified the
body.
Buckley was in Memphis about to record a follow-up to his 1994
smash debut album, Grace. He had been missing since May 29
after he decided to go swimming in a Memphis marina. He and a
friend, Keith Foti, were listening to music on the
banks of the Mississippi River when Buckley entered the water fully
clothed. After a boat came by and created a large wake, Foti got up
to move the radio. When he returned, Buckley had disappeared.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
