Chris Brown Talks Rihanna, “Forever” Wedding Craze in New Interview
Chris Brown sat down for his first radio interview — just his second interview since assaulting Rihanna in February and his subsequent plea deal and sentencing — on New York hip-hop station Hot 97’s Angie Martinez Show, and asked listeners for a second chance. “At the end of the day, I’m human. Of course you’re gonna have your thoughts and opinions. I’m not gonna say they’re wrong,” Brown said. “But at the end of the day, it’s not right to judge someone. People make mistakes all the time. I’m learning from my mistakes every day and I regret it every second.”
When he first opened up on the Larry King Show in a conversation that was conducted days after Brown was sentenced to probation and hard labor, the singer was reluctant to discuss the specifics of the altercation, and he again declined to get into details on Hot97, citing a desire to protect Rihanna’s privacy. “Honestly, I would just like to get past it. At the end of the day, I’m sorry for what I did, whatever it is,” Brown said. “Only me and shorty know what went down in the car, it’s between us.” As for the moment when Brown saw the crime scene photos of a battered Rihanna on TMZ, the singer said, “It was awful.”
Brown went on to say that both Diddy and Will Smith reached out to him following the incident. “As a young black man myself, I need older black male role models to step in and kind of mold me — not people bashing me, ’cause that’s not how you learn from mistakes,” Brown said. Brown also discussed how domestic-violence courses have been helping him. “I can be certain [this will never happene again],” Brown said. “I’ve seen the pain people have been through and I don’t want to inflict that anymore.”
As for the “Forever” wedding dance craze, immortalized on YouTube and The Office, Brown acknowledged, “That put me back on the map.” Brown revealed he considered sending the couple in the original YouTube video a living room set, but didn’t want people to think he was paying off the newlyweds. Yesterday Brown released his latest single “Crawl,” the follow-up to his comeback track “I Can Transform Ya.” He begins a “fan appreciation” tour November 14th.
