Fans Boo Madonna in Paris
French fans booed Madonna following her 45-minute set in Paris last night, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Stopping by l’Olympia on her MDNA tour, Madonna kicked off her set around 10:15 p.m. and wrapped up around 11 p.m., much to the ire of the crowd. Fans stayed in their seats to boo the pop star and spewed insults like “salope,” which is French for “slut.”
The show was just added to the tour last week, selling out in just a few hours. Most fans in attendance were Madonna devotees, landing the tickets through her fan club before they were made available to the general public. Prices ranged from 80 to over 280 euros, or about $98 to over $344, and hundreds of fans camped out several hours before the show. Many concertgoers congregated in front of the theater after the show, demanding their money back. l’Olympia has a capacity of 2,700.
Madonna has come under fire for her use of Nazi imagery on her current tour, defending her use of a swastika after the National Front Party of France threatened to sue. In a video, the swastika is superimposed over an image of the National Front leader Marine Le Pen. “It’s not my intention to make enemies,” said the singer. “It’s my intention to promote tolerance.”
