Randy Travis Charged With Drunken Driving, Threatening Cop
A naked Randy Travis was charged with driving while intoxicated and “retaliation or obstruction” for allegedly threatening a policer officer who arrested the country star after he crashed his car in north Texas last night, TMZ reports.
Travis threatened to “shoot and kill the troopers working the case,” a spokesman for the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office said, leading to the felony retaliation charge.
Police discovered Travis naked and covered in minor cuts and bruises shortly before midnight when they responded to a call reporting a man lying in the road. The singer’s 1998 Trans Am was nearby, having been driven off the road and smashed into barricades in a construction zone. When Travis refused to take a breathalyzer test, police put him into the cruiser, still nude, which is where he made the threats. (The sheriff’s office provided the singer with a shirt for his mug shot.)
Travis, who’s known for country hits including “Honky Tonk Moon” and “Too Gone Too Long,” posted $21,500 bail this morning after spending the night in jail.
In February, Travis found himself in a slightly similar situation when police discovered him sitting in his truck in front of a Baptist church, apparently intoxicated. Because Travis’ vehicle was parked at the time, he was charged with a public intoxication misdemeanor.
