Afghan Whigs on Their Reunion Tour, Broken Promises
When Rolling Stone spoke with Afghan Whigs frontman Greg Dulli a few months ago, he said the band’s reunion tour wouldn’t involve new music. But since then, they’ve released a cover of Marnie “Quenie” Lyons’ “See and Don’t See” for free on their website. Dulli has a simple explanation for his change of heart. “I also said I’d never play with this band again. As far as making grand pronouncements about anything in my life, I’m never going to do that again,” Dulli said during a visit to the Rolling Stone studio last week – just a few days the Afghan Whigs made their triumphant return to the stage after a 13-year absence.
Dulli says he’s taking the tour one step at a time, and if it results in more new music, so be it: “I’m gonna play rock & roll with my friends this summer, and if it leads to something else that’s what will happen.”
