Premiere: Delta Rae’s Anthemic ‘Fire’
Durham, North Carolina-based six-piece Delta Rae are set to release their debut album, Carry the Fire, on Sire Records. The group, which infuses rich four-part harmonies with blues, country and rock, is on tour through the summer in support of the album.
“Fire,” a raw, guitar-fueled highlight of the album and a treat in the band’s energetic live set, showcases the band’s rock sensibilities. Singer Brittany Holljes explains that the anthemic track was inspired by a gossiping ex-boyfriend. “My ex had a bad habit of telling strangers about our relationship problems,” she explains to Rolling Stone. “As a couple, we were doomed anyway, but his gossip was a final kick in the teeth. I started singing the song right after I broke it off, and though it’s mostly just fury, the song also has an underlying ‘I’ve got your number’ quality. It’s an anthem for ass-kicking.”
Delta Rae’s debut Carry the Fire will be released on June 19th. You can stream “Fire” below.
