Kid Rock, Deftones, Motorhead Lead Rocklahoma Lineup
Less than an hour away from Muskogee, Oklahoma – the town that Merle Haggard repped in his 1969 song condemning hair grown “long and shaggy” – the annual Rocklahoma fest this year will welcome 10s of thousands of shaggy, long-haired Okies to mosh to Motörhead, Twisted Sister, Kid Rock, Deftones and more. The fest, now in its eighth year, will take place from May 23rd to May 25th at “Catch the Fever” Festival Grounds in Pyror, Oklahoma. Other artists performing that weekend include Five Finger Death Punch, Black Label Society, Staind, Seether, Killswitch Engage, Filter and the Pretty Reckless.
“I view this festival as sort of a ‘Royal Rumble’ of rock; it’s every band for itself, each trying to claim the belt,” said Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider in a statement. Then he dug deep for a pun on one of his songs: “When Twisted Sister is done that night, the promoters are going to need to change the name of the event to ‘I Wanna Rocklahoma’!”
The festival, which last year hosted 50,000 concertgoers, abides by the motto “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Rock.” But it also has a humanitarian cause, too, that serves the Sooner State. To date, the festival has raised over $150,000 for tornado relief efforts.
Tickets for the fest go on sale on February 14th at 10 a.m. CST.
