Red Hot Chili Peppers to Join Bruno Mars’ Super Bowl Show: Report
Bruno Mars may not have to carry the Super Bowl XLVIII halftime show by himself. The Los Angeles Times reports that the Red Hot Chili Peppers will join the singer during his set at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium on February 2nd. Mars will reportedly make the announcement during the Saints-Seahawks playoff contest on Saturday.

Conveniently for Mars, the Chili Peppers will already be in the tri-state area. The group just happen to be headlining sports radio station WFAN’s “Big Hello to Brooklyn” concert at the Barclays Center on February 1st. Other artists playing that three-day event include New Politics, MS MR, J. Roddy Walston and the Business and Basic Vacation.
If Mars is looking for any other artists to court for guest appearances, the “Bud Light Hotel” has also booked an impressive lineup of its own on a docked cruise ship in New York City beginning January 30th. Leading the lineup are the Foo Fighters, Imagine Dragons and the Roots. The latter group has planned a tribute to New York rap for its performance and will feature special guests Run-D.M.C., Busta Rhymes and more. Fall Out Boy and country artist Jake Owen will close out the concerts on February 2nd.
Additionally, the Black Keys, Band of Horses and John Legend will all perform special concerts in New York during the week leading up to the big game. The concerts, dubbed “Evenings With Legends,” will run from January 29th to the 31st in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
One thing is certain for whomever Mars chooses to recruit for his halftime set, if he indeed decides to do so: people will see it. Super Bowl XLVII was the most-watched program on television last year and attracted over 100 million viewers. In fact, the Super Bowl and related broadcasts dominated Nielsen’s list of the most-viewed TV programs of 2013.
