Cee Lo: Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera Need to ‘Get Over’ Feud
The always agreeable Cee Lo Green has called for a truce between fellow feuding Voice judges Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine, Us Weekly reports. “It’s getting a little old and a little inconvenient for everyone,” Cee Lo told Us, calling for an end to the negativity.
The tiff reached its peak on Monday’s episode following a performance by one of Levine’s mentees, Tony Lucca. The singer did an acoustic rendition of Jay-Z’s “99 Problems” set to the tune of “We Will Rock You,” about which Aguilera said, “The lyrical connotation was a little derogatory toward women, but overall it was good fun.”
Levine defended the song choice, saying that the use of the word “bitch” (censored for the show) was referring to “life getting at you, things bringing you down. It’s everything.” After Aguilera questioned Levine’s interpretation, the Maroon 5 frontman sarcastically declared his love for her before ripping off his button-up shirt to reveal a T-shirt with “Team X-Tina” emblazoned on it.
The kerfuffle apparently continued backstage, and while Cee Lo admits he didn’t see what actually went down, he said, “It’s not something that we should carry over into season three. I want the integrity of the show intact.”
Voice host Carson Daly also expressed his discontent with the fight but believes it won’t last: “It’s frustrating in the same way when you’re just with your family on Thanksgiving and the conversation over Monopoly gets heightened for a second – I’m looking at my sister going, ‘Is my blood really boiling over the fact that you have Park Place?’ Then it goes away.” He added, “It’s nothing new for us.”
It’s pretty much customary at this point for Levine and Aguilera to throw barbs at one another. In just the second episode of this season, Aguilera landed a serious diss, calling Levine “a Justin Timberlake wannabe.”
Still, fans shouldn’t worry. As Levine told Rolling Stone last year about his fighting with Aguilera, “We just bicker like brother and sister, and part of it is fabricated by the television gods. But she’s great. I respect the shit out of her.”
