Fun. Ask ‘What the F*ck’ on Free Live EP
Fun. posted a six-song live EP, Before Shane Went to Bangkok: fun. Live in the USA, today on their website. The digital EP contains tracks recorded on the trio’s Most Nights tour and contains songs from their 2009 debut album Aim and Ignite and 2012 breakthrough LP Some Nights, as well as the previously unreleased track “What the Fuck.” The group also posted a preorder for the limited-edition vinyl pressing of the release, which they’re planning on releasing in March; this version of the release comes with photographs by Daniel Silbert taken on the Most Nights tour.
Where Did fun.’s ‘Some Nights’ Rank Among the 50 Best Albums of 2012?
Vocalist Nate Ruess posted a missive about the release on the band’s website, expressing exhaustion from spending two years on the road in support of the platinum-selling, Grammy-winning Some Nights. He also voiced his appreciation for the group’s success. “We never thought any of this would happen,” he wrote. “All we ever wanted (at the time) was to continue to play the wild and crazy shows that we had grown so accustomed to at the incarnation of this group. We just thought we would pick up some more fans along the way.”
After thanking his fans for their support, Ruess said he was looking forward to touring again and then offered up the EP. “Try to remember what a great time we had,” he wrote. “Enjoy ‘WTF’ . . . it’s nice to see it finally catch an official light of day.”
This year, in addition to winning the Best New Artist and Song of the Year Grammys in February, fun. performed at the White House on July 4th and jammed with Queen (a band that didn’t rank among Ruess’s favorite songs) at September’s iHeartRadio festival. Despite the trio’s busy schedule, guitarist Jack Antonoff also found time to write an album’s worth of children’s music in March and appeared on the PBS series Super WHY!. “I grew up on Raffi,” the guitarist commented at the time. “That was my first impression of what a rock star was.”
