Rolling Stones Book First Australia Show in Nearly 10 Years
Looks like the Rolling Stones‘ “50 and Counting” anniversary tour is headed well into the “counting” portion: the veteran rockers will travel to Australia in 2014, starting with a performance March 22nd at a new stadium in Adelaide on the nation’s southern coast. Former Stones guitarist Mick Taylor “will be a special guest,” according to the band’s website.
“Hi Adelaide, it’s been a while, right?” guitarist Keith Richards says in a teaser clip announcing the show. Indeed, it will have been 19 years since the Stones played Adelaide on their Voodoo Lounge tour in the spring of 1995.

The concert at the Oval is the only new show the Stones have announced so far, though the band’s website says more Australia concerts and one New Zealand show will be announced in the next few weeks. Tickets for the Adelaide show go on sale to the general public on November 25th at 9 a.m. ACST, with a pre-sale set to begin November 21st at 11 a.m. ACST.
The Stones marked their 50th anniversary last year when they first returned to the stage with concerts in London, New York and New Jersey, before launching a full-scale North American tour this past spring and performing for the first time at the Glastonbury festival in England. In addition to guest spots from Taylor, the Stones’ tour featured appearances by the likes of Eric Clapton, Mary J. Blige, Bruce Springsteen, Lady Gaga, John Mayer, Katy Perry, Dave Grohl, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Gary Clark Jr. and Brad Paisley.
The band last year also released GRRR!, a 50th-anniversary greatest-hits collection comprising 50 songs on three CDs, including the new tracks “Doom and Gloom” and “One More Shot.”
