Joan Jett Rocks ‘Bad Reputation’ Live – Premiere
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts serve up a rousing performance of her 1981 anthem, “Bad Reputation” as part of her appearance on this week’s Guitar Center Sessions on DirecTV. In addition to chatting with host Nic Harcourt, Jett mixed classics with material from her new album, Unvarnished, as part of her appearance, which runs December 6th at 9 p.m. EST and 10 p.m. PST on DirecTV’s Audience Network (Channel 239).
Where Does Joan Jett Rank on David Fricke’s List of the 100 Greatest Guitarists?
“Joan was very forthright in our conversation, which made for an exceptionally intriguing interview,” Harcourt tells Rolling Stone. “That direct quality is not unlike her music. She is uncompromising in everything she does – rock & roll through and through.”
Now in its seventh season, Guitar Center Sessions will feature acts including Gary Allan, Atlas Genius, Coheed and Cambria and Cheap Trick in coming weeks. Encore performances will also air on AXS TV Monday nights at 9 p.m., widening the show’s reach.
Jett and the Blackhearts released Unvarnished, their 10th studio album and first set of new material in more than seven years, on September 30th. Jett told Rolling Stone earlier this year that it took her a while to work through what she thought was writer’s block. “I used to think that songs just came to me,” she said. “They didn’t – you had to sit down and work at it. Just be patient, write a couple of lines, leave it, come back to it and stuff will pop out. And all of a sudden, stuff started coming, and I realized: You don’t have writer’s block. Your expectations were wrong.”
