The Killers Yearn for ‘Just Another Girl’
Brandon Flowers sounds lovelorn and wistful in the Killers‘ new single “Just Another Girl,” which VH1 recently premiered. The song is one of two new tracks that will appear on the forthcoming 15-song compilation Direct Hits, which is due out November 11th. While many of the other tracks on that release, such as “Somebody Told Me” and “Mr. Brightside,” show off the Killers‘ flair for the melodramatic, “Just Another Girl” plays up the group’s slightly more restrained side. It begins with minimalist piano and acoustic strumming, as Flowers sings doubtfully, “All of my friends say I should move on, she’s just another girl.” It evolves into a synth-heavy ballad with a strong backbeat, but Flowers plays up lyrics about heartbreak and heartache.

The compilation will also feature the new song produced by M83’s Anthony Gonzalez, “Shot at the Night,” for which they made a video, as well as a demo of “Mr. Brightside” and a remix of “When You Were Young” by Calvin Harris. “This record feels like a great way to clean everything up and move onto the next thing,” Flowers told NME about the release. He also added that the new songs are part of an ongoing songwriting process for him. “I’m always writing, it’s like second nature to me now, but I’m always analyzing what I’ve got, and doubts can start creeping into your head,” he said. “But I’m really happy with the songs we’ve got to add to the list.”
