The Who’s Alternate ‘Amazing Journey’ – Song Premiere
The Who‘s historic rock opera Tommy will be repackaged as a limited edition Super Deluxe Box Set and Deluxe Edition on November 11th. A newly uncovered and unbridled version of “Amazing Journey,” which is culled from the reissue’s bonus material, premieres here.

Originally released in May 1969, Tommy was famously written by Townshend to tell the story of “a deaf, dumb and blind kid.” Originally a three-LP set, the Who‘s fourth studio album has gone on to sell more than 20 million copies.
Aside from a 2013 HD remaster of the 24-song rock masterpiece and the aforementioned demo disc, the expanded Super Deluxe edition adds two additional Tommy presentations – a 5.1 mix in Hi-Fidelity Pure Audio Blu-Ray and a disc of the band performing the complete album live.
The bulk of the latter was captured by the band’s soundman Bob Pridden during the Who’s October 15th, 1969 performance of the album at the Capital Theatre in Ottawa. It should be noted that these recordings only exist because Pridden defied Townshend’s orders to burn the tapes of the show. The concert versions of “I’m Free,” “Tommy’s Holiday Camp” and “We’re Not Gonna Take It” included were captured at other era performances after they were lost while Pridden changed out tape reels toward the end of the Ottawa gig.
