Low Cut Connie Turn Up Heat on ‘Jump Into the Fire’ – Song Premiere
Low Cut Connie‘s volatile take on Harry Nilsson‘s “Jump Into the Fire” opens with a jagged, explosive guitar riff and then immediately gets wilder with the addition of soul-drenched, slamming piano chords. Then, vocalist Adam Weiner comes in at the top of his lungs, belting out “We can make each other happy” and, in true Nilsson fashion, ends the song with a rant of original lyrics, which reference Goodfellas.
Low Cut Connie and 20 More Memorable Music Moments in 2013
The track is off This Is the Town: A Tribute to Nilsson (Volume One) which includes 20 acts covering the distinctive artist. “Harry Nilsson was a goddamn genius,” Weiner tells Rolling Stone. “He wrote, sung, partied and lived with equal parts sweetness, paranoia and pure chutzpah. We wanted to capture that in order to remind people that the man could rock & roll pretty good. When the tribute’s producer, Kenny Siegal, asked us to cut one of Nilsson’s tunes, it was an easy choice. Goodfellas is my favorite movie and the iconic helicopter coke deal scene with ‘Jump Into the Fire’ is an all-timer. Hopefully, Ray Liotta doesn’t sue us.”
The whole collection looks to be eclectic and unpredictable, including tracks from Langhorne Slim, Jenny O., the Mommyheads, Rasputina and even Nilsson’s daughter, Annie. In fact, so many artists embraced the idea that Volume Two is already in the works.
This Is the Town: A Tribute to Nilsson (Volume One) is due out on February 4th, 2014, on Royal Potato Family, and is available here for pre-order.
