Ed Sheeran Releases ‘Hobbit’ Song ‘I See Fire’
Ed Sheeran has shared the music video for “I See Fire,” an original song he wrote for the soundtrack of Peter Jackson’s upcoming Hobbit sequel The Desolation of Smaug. The haunting track is right in line with Sheeran’s trademark style, filled with dramatic crooning and quiet acoustic guitars.

The stark black-and-white video shows the British songwriter in the recording studio, laying down his vocal harmonies and guitar. It’s a fittingly intimate clip for Sheeran, who actually produced and recorded all the instruments himself (apart from the weepy cello line). “Managed to learn violin for a day,” he tweeted earlier this week. “Hope you all dig it.” The song is available to purchase on iTunes, while the Desolation of Smaug soundtrack is currently available for pre-order ahead of its December 10th release date.
Sheeran has been hard at work on a follow-up to his massive debut LP, 2011’s +. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, he claims to be planning three albums for the next three years.
Jackson, of course, has his own ongoing trilogy: The Desolation of Smaug follows the director’s first Hobbit adaptation, 2012’s An Unexpected Journey, which has grossed a whopping $1 billion at the box office worldwide. Jackson is planning to wrap up the series with There and Back Again, which is expected to see release in 2014.
