Miley Cyrus Goes Back to Basics on ‘SNL’
Miley Cyrus dialed back the spectacle and abstained from twerking during her two music sets on Saturday Night Live last night. As the episode’s host, she was still afforded the opportunity to revisit her VMA antics and the debauched “We Can’t Stop” imagery through the sketches, but in the role of musical guest, she kept the focus largely on her songs.
For her first set, Cyrus appeared with a full band and backup singers to perform her latest Bangerz single, “Wrecking Ball.” Dressed relatively demurely in an oversized but sheer Poison jersey, she belted out the chorus with power-ballad intensity. For the second act, Cyrus pared the party anthem “We Can’t Stop” down to the bone, crooning the song while perched on a stool, accompanied by three acoustic guitars.
