See Stephen Colbert Drink Vodka, Joke About Trump on Russian TV Show
In the first installment of The Late Show‘s “Russia Week,” Stephen Colbert showed how he ended up on Russia’s top late-night program, Evening Urgant. During the taping, Colbert slugged vodka shots and announced his presidential candidacy in 2020. “I thought it would be better to cut out the middleman and just tell the Russians myself,” he said.
On The Late Show Monday, Colbert played the full clip of his appearance on Evening Urgant, as well as a backstage interview with host Ivan Urgant. Colbert asked whether he felt comfortable joking about politics. While Urgant said his show periodically got political, he noted Evening Urgant was more similar to Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show than John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight.
Still, with Colbert on his couch, Urgant got in a few jabs at President Donald Trump (and, to a certain extent, his own country). While offering a toast to America, Urgant joked, “I’d like to toast the wonderful country, America, the United States, which invented the Internet, thanks to which can influence the outcome of the presidential elections in the U.S.”
