See Lady Antebellum’s Hilarious Spoof of Sam Hunt’s ‘Body Like a Back Road’
Since they first announced plans to go back on the road this year for their You Look Good Tour, the members of Lady Antebellum have seemed to be just about as busy making cheesy videos as have they been playing shows. That’s proved plenty entertaining for the trio’s fans, who get treated to a Sam Hunt spoof in their latest video, “Party in a Bathrobe.”
Hunt scored his biggest hit to date this spring with “Body Like a Back Road,” the song he co-wrote with Shane McAnally, Josh Osborne and Zach Crowell that has spent 23 consecutive weeks at Number One on the Hot Country Songs chart. Lady A’s spin on the song, presented in a video shot by Hodges Usry, takes Hunt’s love song metaphor and turns into a literal ode to the luxuries of life on the road for a country star.
Framed by a voiceover note from Hillary Scott as she gifts band mates Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood new bathrobes as a mid-tour token of appreciation. Kelley, singing to the same melody as “Body Like a Back Road,” brags about living the #RobeLife: making espresso, eggs, and mimosas and not wearing underwear. (It makes it easier to urinate, as he points out.) The tongue-in-cheek song, which even includes a “random horn solo,” parodies the image of the spoiled touring musician, while also speaking to some important truths – namely, that no matter how famous you are, you still can’t poop on the bus.
There’s reason to believe that the real-life Lady A, whose new album Heart Break went to Number One upon its June release, has plenty of fun on tour, too. “It should be a party,” Kelley told Rolling Stone Country before the You Look Good Tour kicked off in May. “And we have a lot of fun backstage. We aren’t one of those bands that sits on our bus all day. We pull out the ping-pong table, invite everybody in to have a drink.”
Lady A is in the middle of their 65-date You Look Good Tour with Kelsea Ballerini and Brett Young, which makes its next stop this evening at Blossom Music Center in Cleveland, Ohio.
