See Brett Eldredge Croon ‘Castaway’ in an Airplane Hangar
One thing that has always set Brett Eldredge apart from his contemporaries is his confidence as a performer. He’s a natural born showman, as seen in his energetic concerts, unorthodox awards show appearances, and, now, in a handful of brand new performance clips.
Billed as “The Airwaves Sessions,” the three new videos feature Eldredge performing previously unreleased songs from his forthcoming album Brett Eldredge. The sessions take their name from both the video’s location – inside an old airplane hangar – and from Eldredge’s love of exploration.
“There’s so much character in there and it allowed me to sing with simplicity,” Eldredge tells Rolling Stone Country. “A couple songs were just me and one or two instruments, but all of it was just straight live. That’s so important to me. I’m kind of a jet setter. I like to go all over the place. I like to chase down life and chase down new experiences and new inspirations.”
The first of the three sessions features Eldredge performing the new song “Castaway” alongside the track’s co-writer, Jordan Reynolds. The song is a vulnerable ballad about running away from love, with Eldredge’s heartfelt vocals complemented by Reynolds’ gentle arpeggios.
“‘Castaway’ is definitely a standout,” he says. “It’s much deeper than any song I’ve ever written. It’s very honest and really puts me out there, but I’ve learned with this record that that’s what I’m ready to do now even more than ever.”
Given Eldredge’s love of performing, he views these sessions are the latest manifestation of his commitment to giving his fans the best live experiences possible.
“I want it to be an experience for everyone when they sit in the crowd, in a little room, in an amphitheater, a stadium, whatever it is,” he says. “I don’t want them ever to be let down, like ‘Oh man, that guy doesn’t sound anything like his records.’”
Brett Eldredge is out August 4th.
