See Carly Pearce’s Heart-Rending ‘Every Little Thing’ Video
Carly Pearce‘s success continues to defy longstanding country music axioms: don’t lead with a ballad, give them something to dance to and no one wants to hear another sad song. On Thursday, the Busbee protégé and Kentucky native released the video to her Billboard top 20 single “Every Little Thing,” which continues to climb the chart in spite of breaking all the rules.
“The production is sparse and vulnerable and haunting. And then you look at the fact that it’s a female, and it’s a ballad and it’s a heartbreak song,” Pearce told Rolling Stone Country of her single, co-written with busbee and Emily Shackelton. “I just feel like I’ve busted the door open on any sort of stereotype of what you can’t break.”
“Every Little Thing” was initially an independent release before being re-released through Big Machine when Pearce signed in January. The song is currently Number 19 on the Country Airplay chart this week, and she stands alone as the only solo female artist in the top 20. (Maren Morris and Carrie Underwood both appear as featured artists on men’s tracks.) The new video for “Every Little Thing” chronicles a relationship like the one in the song, beginning with happier times and then concluding with a painful collapse and unwelcome memories.
Pearce is on tour through September, continuing as one of the opening acts for Bobby Bones’ standup comedy tour. She plays Toronto in support of Dean Brody on August 24th.
