See Tim McGraw, Midland’s Lively Cover of Alabama’s ‘Dixieland Delight’
Texas trio Midland has been on the road supporting Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s Soul2Soul Tour in early June as it wound its way through Canada. On Thursday afternoon, they offered proof: McGraw and Midland appear together backstage at the Edmonton stop, singing the Alabama standard “Dixieland Delight.”
Surrounded by tiled walls with heavy reverb, Midland’s Mark Wystrach, Jess Carson and Cameron Duddy blend their harmonies with McGraw, accompanied by guitar, snare drum, and fiddle.
“That one came together,” Midland lead singer Wystrach says at the song’s end. “That was the one.” McGraw has made a habit lately of posting impromptu performance videos with his tour support, including the Shadowboxers and Chris Janson.
Midland has been running hard between touring and radio promotion, and their single “Drinkin’ Problem” hit 14, its highest position ever, on the Billboard Country Airplay chart this week. The band’s surprise performance during Nashville’s CMA Music Festival was selected as one of Rolling Stone Country‘s “Best Things We Saw.”
“Between [touring] and trying to get your domestic duties done when you’re home for maybe 17, 18 hours on a Sunday, there’s not really much time to see much further than a day or two ahead,” bassist Duddy told RSC in May.
Now that their four-date run with Soul2Soul has concluded, Midland is back on the road supporting other artists, including Darius Rucker and Kenny Chesney. They play their hometown Austin City Limits on October 15th.
