See Miranda Lambert’s Sassy, Swaying ‘Pink Sunglasses’ at CMT Awards
After a series of TV performances of the introspective, heartbreaking “Tin Man,” Miranda Lambert rediscovered her sassy side at the 2017 CMT Music Awards. The singer performed the breezy “Pink Sunglasses” off her double album The Weight of These Wings.
Lambert received a sartorial assist from her country-star peers, with the entire audience inside Nashville’s Music City Center donning pink shades and bopping along. The Texas native seemed to relish the opportunity to let her hair down, playing up the wooziness of the track.
Written by Luke Dick, Natalie Hemby and Rodney Clawson, “Pink Sunglasses” is an escapist anthem, with the narrator blocking out life’s unpleasantness with that cheap titular eyeware. “The idea was to have these Walmart rose-colored glasses that you can put on and it’s a shield from the world,” Dick told Rolling Stone Country earlier this year. “It’d be great to have a song where somebody uses sunglasses to turn the world off.”
Lambert is set to perform at CMA Music Festival in Nashville on Thursday night, as the four-day gathering of country fans gets underway. The avid animal lover will begin the morning by leading a parade of dogs into Music City.
