See Chris Janson’s Mud-Drenched ‘Redneck Life’ Video
While still promoting his latest single, “Fix a Drink,” on Friday Chris Janson released a lo-fi video for “Redneck Life,” the final track on his new Fix a Drink EP. Janson, on the bank of a slow-moving creek, rattles off trappings of the experience he’s known: cheap cigarettes, cutoff jeans, and a hat bill bent as far as it can go.
“I believe in staying true to your roots, and I believe that if you’re going to make music for a fan base,” Janson told Rolling Stone Country after his performance at the HGTV Lodge for CMA Fest. “I know as a listener, I want to be able to believe who I am listening to, and I am that kind of guy. No matter what the subject matter in my songs, in some form or facet I have lived, am living, or plan to be living that song.”
Written by Janson and Mitch Oglesby, the song also features Janson on harmonica, which he tells RSC he learned because it would get him bigger tips while working over a decade ago in the honky tonks on Nashville’s Lower Broadway.
Janson is currently on tour with Sam Hunt’s 15 in a 30 Tour, which runs through September 16th and includes fellow supporting artist Maren Morris.
