See Amy Poehler, Seth Meyers Take on Pro-Trump Activists on ‘Late Night’
Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers reunited on Late Night With Seth Meyers on Wednesday. The pair took on the alt-right, pro-Trump activists who attempted to disrupt Public Theater’s Shakespeare in the Park production of Julius Caesar, in which Caesar appears to resemble Trump, last Friday in New York.
The former Saturday Night Live “Weekend Update” hosts fittingly resumed their classic “Really!?!” segment for the task. “Now let me get this straight. You waited in line to get tickets to a play you already hated. And then you watched it for three hours and then you ran on stage to protest,” Poehler said incredulously. “But not the president, but someone who was dressed like the president from getting pretend-stabbed with a fake knife. Really?”
It was so out of hand, Poehler added, that actors are dropping out. “You know what? You’ve made actors so upset that Daniel Day-Lewis has quit now! You made Lincoln quit!”
Meyers then chimed in. “And really, if this portrayal was offensive to anyone, it’s Caesar. Caesar was beloved by the Roman Empire,” Meyers said. “To put it another way, he won the popular vote.”
The hilarity continued with Meyers advising those seeking Shakespeare-level Trump drama to just watch CNN. Meanwhile, Poehler scolded both those on the right and left, warning both sides of hypocrisy and citing free speech. Then she used her own free speech to tell right-winger Ted Nugent that his music sucks. “‘Cat Scratch Fever’ is such a dumbass, stupid song, you dick! So dumb. Your music stinks!”
They concluded by addressing a conservative pundit who proposed a witch-hunt play where Hillary Clinton would be burned at the stake. “Guess what, bro? You can’t burn Hillary at the stake,” Poehler said. “She’s already been burned twice, 2008 and 2016. My bitch is Teflon now! Really!”
