The annual Peach Music Festival, set for August 10th through 13th at Montage Mountain in Scranton, Pennsylvania, has announced a tribute to two of its co-founders: Gregg Allman and Butch Trucks. Both members of the Allman Brothers Band, who launched the Peach in 2012, died this past year.
The lineup for what is being billed as an “all-star” tribute to Allman and Trucks is still being finalized, but the jam will likely include Allman Brothers Band alumni: Warren Haynes is already slate to play the Peach, along with Les Brers, Trucks’ project with Allmans drummer Jaimoe, Marc Quiñones and Oteil Burbridge. The tribute is set for the Peach Fest’s Saturday night. Allman was to perform at last year’s gathering but health problems forced him to cancel a string of appearances. The String Cheese Incident and guests stepped in for Allman with their own special tribute.
The Festival has also announced additions to a lineup that already includes My Morning Jacket, Widespread Panic, Rich Robinson’s the Magpie Salute and the Record Company. Bluegrass group Greensky Bluegrass, Gov’t Mule & Friends featuring John Scofield, Galactic, Keller Williams’ KWahtro and two sets by Cabinet, one of Rolling Stone Country‘s Artists You Need to Know, are among the newly added artists.
To promote the Peach, the organizers have released a campy video inspired by the classic “Freedom Rock” commercials from the Eighties. Starring Tom Hamilton, a regular at the festival, both with his band American Babies and as a guest guitarist, the video scrolls through the lineup in front of the iconic “Freedom Rock” bus.
