See Willie Nelson Smoke Weed in Toby Keith’s New ‘Wacky Tobaccy’ Video
Toby Keith knows how quickly things can get out of hand when you’re getting high. “Weed With Willie,” his 2003 tribute to smoking marijuana with Willie Nelson, is a cautionary tale of being left in the fetal position by some top-shelf bud. So it’s not too surprising that Keith’s new tongue-in-cheek ode to the herb, “Wacky Tobaccy,” is also a tutorial for staying out of trouble – with a cameo by a joint-puffing Nelson himself.
Written by Keith and frequent collaborator Scotty Emerick, who also cowrote “Weed With Willie,”
“Wacky Tobaccy” has plenty of wisdom to impart: homegrown is good, synthetic is bad, and there are a lot of different ways to smoke it, including, though not limited to, a pipe, a bong, a vaporizer, or a can of Budweiser. No matter how you do it, Keith’s advice is to ‘kick back and let it do what it do.” For Keith, his favorite stuff is red hair sensimilla.
The video for “Wacky Tobaccy” is suitably silly, with Keith and his band jamming on their tour bus surrounded by posters of Jamaica and smoky looking graphics. The Red Headed Stranger pops up midway through, having been hot-boxing by himself in the bathroom, and the video ends with the inevitable munchie-fueled indulgence of pizza, Cheetos and cheeseburgers.
“Wacky Tobaccy” is Keith’s first new song since he released “A Few More Cowboys” in 2016. It’s been two years since he released his last LP, 35 MPH Town, and much longer since he’s played in Nashville — a streak that’s set to come to an end with the news that he’ll headline Ascend Amphitheater on July 20th. It’ll be the Oklahoma native’s first appearance in Music City in 13 years.
