Watch Scotty McCreery’s Poignant ‘5 More Minutes’ Video
Nostalgia is one of country’s hallmarks, and American Idol champ Scotty McCreery takes a poignant trip down memory lane with his new video for “Five More Minutes.”
The tune, which McCreery co-wrote with Frank Rogers and Monty Criswell, tips its hat to his two grandfathers, along with paying tribute to other special people (like his girlfriend Gabi Dugal) who have made an impact on the singer’s life. In the video, directed by Jeff Ray, fuzzy home video footage alternates with intermittent, more polished close-ups of McCreery singing the chorus. Viewers are given an intimate glimpse into the singer’s childhood – Christmas gatherings, bicycle rides, choir recitals – in a clip that contains more than a few tear-jerking moments.
For sure, the song touches on the big moments (“At 86 my grandpa said there’s angels in the room”) but as the video underscores with vignettes of fishing trips and backyard play, it’s equally important to treasure the smaller ones before time runs out.
“5 More Minutes” is McCreery’s first single since 2015’s “Southern Belle” and the first from an as-yet-untitled new album. This weekend, he’s due to play a show in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
