Watch Miranda Lambert’s Stark, Unplugged ‘Tin Man’ Video
Most public performances to date of Miranda Lambert‘s current single “Tin Man,” like at April’s ACM Awards, have been solo affairs – just artist, guitar and song delivered in the most direct manner possible. This approach underscores the fact that the tune, from Lambert’s The Weight of These Wings double album, is a vulnerable person’s plea for emotional invulnerability resembling that of the heartless Wizard of Oz character.
The tradition continues in Lambert’s new “Tin Man (Unplugged)” video, stripping away the atmospheric percussion and washes of keys from the original studio version. Filmed in stark black and white, the clip is all about the performance – Lambert rests against a white tile bathroom wall, strumming and singing while the camera captures her from inside the shower. The acoustics of the room, with its hard surfaces, add a ghostly reverb that make “Tin Man” seem even more forlorn.
Though it’s been a buzzed-about album favorite since the November release of The Weight of These Wings, “Tin Man” has had to fight for a place on country radio. Presently, it sits at Number 40 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart and just a few notches higher at Number 31 on Hot Country Songs. This weekend, Lambert’s Highway Vagabond Tour will play a pair of shows June 2nd and 3rd, at the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion in Gilford, New Hampshire, after which she’ll return to Nashville for a June 8th performance at Nissan Stadium during CMA Music Festival.
