Hear Kelsea Ballerini’s Wistful New Song ‘Legends’
After four hit singles from her 2015 debut album The First Time, country-pop performer Kelsea Ballerini released the first new music from her upcoming second album on Wednesday. The single “Legends” is a mid-tempo ballad reflecting on a past love, though Ballerini also views the song as a message to her fans.
“I wrote it from the perspective of a breakup,” Ballerini told RSC. “Now I’m in such a different place in my life that, to me at least, it’s a love song about a love that you look back on that doesn’t even necessarily have to end. I hope my fans hear it as a letter to them but also they hear their own love story in it too.”
Ballerini
teased the surprise release of “Legends” Tuesday night via Twitter, sharing
the single’s artwork and writing, “This is for you.”
“Legends” was written by Ballerini, Hillary Lindsey (Carrie Underwood, Lady Gaga) and Forest Glen Whitehead, who co-produced The First Time and co-wrote several of its songs including “Yeah Boy” and “Peter Pan.” Ballerini will officially debut the song this evening at the CMT Music Awards, where she is nominated in four categories, including Video of the Year.
Ballerini is currently on the road as part of Lady Antebellum’s You Look Good Tour, and is set to perform at Nissan Stadium on June 9th as part of CMA Music Festival. Ballerini will join Thomas Rhett in co-hosting CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock, a three-hour television special set to air August 16th on ABC.
