See Brothers Osborne Jab at Trump in New ‘Point Break’-Inspired Video
Brothers Osborne set a new bar in country music videos with their mini-movie for “Ain’t My Fault.” The video, directed by Wes Edwards and Ryan Silver, doubles as an homage to the 1991 action film Point Break and as a slice of pointed political commentary.
Singer TJ Osborne and guitarist John Osborne are barely in the video, appearing only in the set-up as the operators of a pawn shop – a nod to the title of their debut album – that is robbed by four bandits, all wearing Halloween masks of U.S. presidents: Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Donald Trump.
A cops-and-robbers chase breaks out, with the politicians splitting up. Obama unsuccessfully tries to hide in the home of a gun-toting couch potato, while Trump seeks refuge in an African-American church, where he tries to pilfer from the collection plate. He eventually ends up at a fiery protest, which he escapes by throwing money at the violent masses.
But his freedom is short-lived. While vacation-mode Obama makes a great escape on a jet-ski, and Clinton is saved by Hillary on a motorcycle, Trump finds himself trapped – fittingly – by an imposing wall.
Trump and his wall are just the most obvious example of political commentary. Each presidential bandit also exposes some of their inspiration’s personalities: Bill Clinton is distracted from his flight by a hot blonde, while Dubya speeds away in a pickup with his money flying behind him from the bag he failed to zip.
It’s the lyrics to “Ain’t My Fault” that tell the most clear story, however. Listen closely to the song at the 1:59 and 3:10 marks in the video as TJ sings, “You made a mistake / you got the wrong guy” and the camera settles deliberately on a hollowed-eyed President Trump.
