See Thomas Rhett, Maren Morris Fire Guns, Bust Heads in New Video
It’s been a good week for portrayals of crime in country videos, with Thomas Rhett and Maren Morris offering their own spin in their action-packed “Craving You” clip.
Directed by TK McKamy, the movie trailer-style “Craving You” lands somewhere between buddy-cop crime caper, the gratuitous violence of Grand Theft Auto and the grim noir of Drive, with Rhett playing the wisecracking wheelman and Morris relishing her turn as shotgun-wielding bank robber. Rhett proves to have some ace comic timing, as in the scene where he’s disguised as a dweeby pizza delivery guy and hesitates just a moment too long to clock the guy who answers the door – leaving room for Morris’ no-nonsense character to handle the situation.
Both of them kick a considerable amount of ass and pack serious heat – the camera repeatedly lingers seductively over their firearms – on their way to a meeting with the big boss, while the song’s lyrical content is reflected in a few steamy secondary scenes between Rhett and his real wife, Lauren. As with any crime saga worth its weight in bullets, things are not always as they appear and there’s a substantial plot twist at the end.
“Craving You” is the first single from Rhett’s forthcoming third album, the follow-up to his breakout LP Tangled Up. Currently, he’s headlining shows on his Home Team Tour, which spends the next couple weeks playing shows in Canada. He’s also slated to co-host the CMA Music Festival television special later this summer with Kelsea Ballerini.
