See Maren Morris’ Intimate ‘I Could Use a Love Song’ on ‘The Voice’
Though Maren Morris may not have made the cut on The Voice, her music certainly has: Contestants Mary Sarah, season 11 champ Sundance Head, and Casi Joy have all covered “My Church” in the competition. Last night, it was Morris’ turn in the spotlight and she delivered the quiet ballad “I Could Use a Love Song” to kick off the one-hour episode.
The Grammy award-winning artist swapped her usual swagger for the contemplative, vulnerable Hero track, which Morris wrote with Jimmy Robbins and Laura Veltz. The intimate set and its soft lighting underscored Morris’ emotive vocals, conveying the desperation that any 20-something in the throes of a breakup would know. Her performance follows the recent release for the song’s dramatic video.
Meanwhile, last night’s show eliminated jazzy artist Lilli Passero and pop singer Mark Isaiah, both from coach Adam Levine’s team. Blake Shelton was the only coach on the show whose remaining team members – Lauren Duski, Aliyah Moulden, and TSoul – all were voted into the Top 8. Pop singer Charlie Puth also performed new single “Attention.”
The Voice returns Monday, May 15th at 8:00 p.m. ET where the Top 8 artists will perform.
