Hear Broken Social Scene’s Kinetic New Song ‘Hug of Thunder’
All-star Canadian collective Broken Social Scene have trumpeted their upcoming new album Hug of Thunder with the arrival of the LP’s kinetic title track.
The new album will feature contributions from all 15 of the collective’s original members – including Kevin Drew, Brendan Canning, Leslie Feist, Metric’s Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw, Stars’ Amy Milian and more – as well as new vocalist Ariel Engle. Many of those collaborators appear on the title track, which constantly evolves and blossoms over its five-minute runtime.
“Hug of Thunder” follows the previously released “Halfway Home,” which the group debuted on The Late Show in late-March. Hug of Thunder, Broken Social Scene‘s first album since 2010’s Forgiveness Rock Record, is due out July 7th.
The album is available for pre-order in a variety of formats – including a first-run “coke bottle clear vinyl” complete with a vinyl-only bonus track – through their official site.
Broken Social Scene also announced a North American tour in support of Hug of Thunder, their first full U.S. tour since 2011. That trek begins September 16th in Ithaca, New York. One dollar from every ticket goes towards providing access to arts education for young people in disadvantaged communities. Check out the group’s site for full ticket information. Additional tour dates will be announced at a later date.
