Watch Chris Stapleton Perform Haunting ‘Either Way’ on ‘Charlie Rose’
Chris Stapleton sat down with veteran journalist Charlie Rose for an interview about his new album, From A Room: Volume 1, which gets its title from RCA’s historic Studio A in
In addition to the interview, Stapleton performed a solo, acoustic version of the stark and haunting “Either Way,” one of the LP’s most moving tunes, first featured on Lee Ann Womack’s 2008 Grammy-nominated Call Me Crazy. Watch the performance above.
Stapleton bristles at the idea of being labeled “country’s reigning outlaw,” but tells Rose with a laugh, “I think it’s just a reference to music because I’m not much of an outlaw in other ways.” In addition to tipping his hat to Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson, noting that their music is a bridge to his own, Stapleton says the influence Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin had on him was just as important. The “Tennessee Whiskey” singer also recalled the historic CMA Awards telecast collaboration with Justin Timberlake, calling the Memphis-born musician “a remarkable, singular talent.” Watch the full interview below.
From A Room: Volume 2 will be released later this year.
