Watch Jimmy Kimmel Discuss His Emotional Anti-Trumpcare Plea
Jimmy Kimmel thanked fans and donors for their outpouring of support after making an emotional defense of the pre-AHCA health care system following his newborn son’s open heart surgery. He also addressed his many detractors quipping, “I would like to apologize for saying that children in America should have health care, it was insensitive. It was offensive and I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.”
Kimmel had some sharp words for critics like Newt Gingrich and happily showcased the backlash against Republican congressmen, like Raúl Labrador, who voted for the AHCA. He then discussed the bill’s possible evolution in the senate with Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy. During an interview on CNN, Cassidy said any new health care bill would have to pass “the Jimmy Kimmel test” and ensure that children would be able to receive affordable health care.
Cassidy – who is not among the 13 male senators reportedly shaping the GOP bill – talked about lowering premiums and maintaining Medicaid. When Kimmel suggested that the “Kimmel test” be “no family should be denied medical care, emergency or otherwise,” Cassidy replied, “You’re on the right track and if that’s as close as we can get, that works great in government. Now we’ve gotta be able to pay for it.”
When Kimmel suggested not giving millionaires a tax cut to do so, Cassidy suggested Americans call their Senators.
