Foo Fighters

For the past three decades, Foo Fighters have stood their ground as one of the biggest rock bands on the planet thanks to their explosive live show, tireless work ethic, and arsenal of hit songs, including "Everlong," "My Hero," "Monkey Wrench," My Hero," and "Best of You."

The band was originally nothing more than a demo tape Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl created entirely on his own months after Kurt Coban's death. Seeing huge potential in the project, he recruited former Nirvana touring guitarist Pat Smear and the Sunny Day Real Estate rhythm section of bassist Nate Mendel and drummer William Goldsmith to take the music on the road. As the years ticked by, the moved from clubs to theaters to arenas and finally stadiums all across the globe, racking up 11 albums and 15 Grammy's along the way. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021.

Grohl and Mendel are the only consistent members from the original touring lineup. Smear left in 1997 and was replaced by guitarist Chris Shiflett. When Smear returned to the fold in 2005, they expanded their lineup to feature both guitarists. Keyboardist Rami Jaffee became an official member in 2017 after touring with them off and on for a dozen years.

Tragedy hit the band in 2022 when drummer Taylor Hawkins, who replaced Goldsmith in 1997, died while the band was on the road in Bogotá, Colombia. The group suspended all activity for a year before carrying on with drummer Josh Freehse. â€”Andy Greene
