See Kris Kristofferson, Trace Adkins in Gritty ‘Hickok’ Trailer
Kris Kristofferson and Trace Adkins are together again, but this is no musical collaboration between these two country stars. Last year, the pair appeared together in Timothy Woodward Jr.’s western film Traded, and on July 7th they’ll hit the silver screen again in Woodward’s Hickok, starring Luke Hemsworth in the title role of Wild Bill Hickock.
Like Traded, something of a minor genre flick despite a cast that also included Michael Pare, Hickok — the first leading role in a film for Westworld actor Hemsworth — is set in Kansas, where notorious gunslinger Hickock arrives in the town of Abilene in the 1870s. Kristofferson plays George Knox, the mayor of Abilene who, awed by Hickock’s reputation, makes him the town marshal. Adkins plays Hickock’s rival in the film, a local saloon owner named Phil Poe, who puts a bounty on Hickock’s head.
Also appearing in the movie as Doc Rivers O’Roark is Oscar nominee and noted western actor Bruce Dern, who recently appeared in such films as The Hateful Eight and Django Unchained. Golden Globe winner Kristofferson is no stranger to westerns himself, with one of his earliest film roles coming with 1973’s Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, which also marked the acting debut of Bob Dylan.
Hickok will be released in 10 markets nationwide including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Dallas, as well as OnDemand and Digital HD, on July 7th. Adkins, who recently released his first album in three years, Something’s Going On, and also starred in last year’s Stagecoach: The Texas Jack Story, is currently on tour.
