Watch Iggy Pop’s Angelic Turn in ‘Starlight’ Movie Trailer
Iggy Pop watches over a troupe of troubled circus performers in the stark new trailer for the French film, Starlight. The Sophie Blondy-directed film first made the festival rounds in 2013 and will arrive on Blu-Ray and video-on-demand May 9th.
Pop plays an angel-type figure who appears throughout the film as the members of the failing circus company find themselves embroiled in feuds and love triangles on the shores of the North Sea. As the troupe struggles to attract an audience, they split into warring factions with the ballerina Angele, her clown lover Elliot and the cruel, schizophrenic ringmaster pitted against Zohra, who’s in love with Elliot. The trailer teases plenty of classic French-style ennui that builds to an anguished tension before finally erupting in violence.
Starlight also stars Natacha Régnier, Denis Lavant, Tchéky Karyo, Béatrice Dalle and Bruno Putzulu.
As for Iggy Pop, the rocker has remained busy with music, teaming with Josh Homme last year to release a new solo album Post Pop Depression. He’s also continued to act regularly, recently appearing in Terence Mallick’s Song to Song, the wild German punk film Gutterdämmerung and Toby Tobias’ 2016 feature Blood Orange.
