The Mavericks Detail New Fall Tour Dates
Nearly 30 years into their genre-bending career, the Mavericks are getting a fresh start in 2017. After parting ways with their old record label to a start a label of their own, Mono Mundo Recordings, the Raul Malo-led band released their ninth studio album Brand New Day last month and are now preparing to head out on a 40-date tour of North America in support of it.
The tour kicks off this Friday, April 29th, at WhiteWater Amphitheater in New Braunfels, Texas. Focusing on the East coast and central and southern United States with a few stops in California and Colorado, the Mavericks will play such legendary theaters as Thalia Hall in Chicago and The Beacon in New York City.
They Grammy winners will also play a number of midsummer music festivals, including a detour to Europe in June for England’s Glastonbury Festival and Interlaken in Switzerland. The tour finishes in the band’s home state of Florida in early December.
The Mavericks celebrated the release of Brand New Day with a show at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on April 7th. The band also recently traveled to Cuba, where Malo’s parents emigrated from after Fidel Castro came to power in 1959, in part to collaborate with local Cuban musicians and film a concert special for PBS.
“No matter what’s going on, you can still shake your ass,” Malo told Rolling Stone Country in March, referring to the political climate and its effect on the band’s new album. “And sometimes that’s the only escape you need.”
