Hear ‘Carolina’ Band Parmalee’s Smoldering New Song ‘Sunday Morning’
It’s been over three years since North Carolina country-rock band Parmalee released their major-label debut, 2013’s Feels Like Carolina, which produced several Top 10 singles and the Number One hit “Carolina.” Now, the four-piece has dropped “Sunday Morning,” a sentimental rocker, in advance of their second album due later this year.
“Sunday Morning” may be set in a wild night out, but its title refers to a lover’s calming presence, which slows the manic pace to that of a church morning. Written by Parmalee frontman Matt Thomas, Ross Copperman (Keith Urban’s “John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16”) and Josh Osborne (Sam Hunt), the slick production and big guitars owe not a little bit to labelmate Jason Aldean.
“We’re the country side of a rock band,” Thomas told Rolling Stone Country in 2014, crediting Aldean and Eric Church for pioneering a harder sound in the format. “They were more like the rockin’ side of country guys,” he said. “So they kind of opened the doors up, and we kept chugging and doing what we did.”
As fans wait for the band’s new full-length, Parmalee hits the road for a number of East Coast and Midwest dates this summer, including two in their home state.
