Jay Z, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gorillaz to Headline Austin City Limits
Jay Z, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gorillaz, Chance the Rapper, the Killers, Martin Garrix and the xx will headline the 2017 Austin City Limits. The event will take place over two weekends, October 6th to 8th and 13th to 15th, later this year at Zilker Park in Austin.
The headliners will be joined by performers from across the genre spectrum, with an emphasis on rap, electronic music and indie rock: A$AP Ferg and Danny Brown, Bonobo and Zhu, Car Seat Headrest and Whitney. Skip Marley will bring a touch of reggae to the proceedings, while Solange is one of the few performers in the lineup to draw from R&B.
The festival’s Austin roots also ensure that country music is well-represented in the lineup by groups like the longstanding western swing band Asleep at the Wheel and the metal-singer-turned-country-outlaw Cody Jinks. Asleep at the Wheel founder Ray Benson will perform an additional set with another Texas country stalwart, Dale Watson.
Tickets for Austin City Limits go on sale today at 10 a.m. CST through the festival’s website. Unlike some of its competitors, ACL is an all-ages affair, and children under the age of 10 get in for free if they are accompanied by a ticketed adult. Those who are unable to make it to Austin in October will still be able to catch their favorite band, as the festival has partnered with Red Bull to stream shows live for free.
Each year, ACL donates a portion of its proceeds to help revitalize Zilker Park, which has served as the festival’s home for 16 years. This year, Zilker turns 100, and ACL celebrated the milestone by promising a $6.3 million donation.
