Watch Ryan Adams Perform Rousing New Song ‘Outbound Train’ on ‘Colbert’
Ryan Adams delivered a spirited performance of “Outbound Train” on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Monday. The track appears on Adams’ latest album, Prisoner.
Adams and his band set up in front of a backdrop of flickering TVs and rumbled through the propulsive cut, which details the tedium and dissatisfaction of an ending relationship. “The cars don’t move in the middle of the night,” Adams sang. “Lost inside the void of the fading tail lights/ I swear I wasn’t lonely when I met you, girl/ But I was so bored, I was so bored.”
Adams released Prisoner in February. The album marked his first LP of new material since his 2014 self-titled record, though it also followed his 2015 song-for-song remake of Taylor Swift’s 1989. Adams will kick off a North American tour tonight, May 2nd, in New York City. That leg wraps May 14th in Atlanta, Georgia, though he’ll return for another stretch starting June 1st in Santa Barbara, California and then a shorter run that begins July 28th in St. Paul, Minnesota.
